Feast for the Foundation
The first annual Feast for the Foundation is taking place Friday November 23rd at Georgian College in Owen Sound starting at 6 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation, and specifically to support Mental Health.
The Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation students of Georgian College, supported by Chef Anthony Bevan, have designed a menu featuring deliciously prepared and locally sourced food. There will also be a cash bar.
Supporting this cause is important because almost all of us will be affected by a mental health issue either directly or indirectly during the course of our lifetimes. Statistics from the Canadian Mental Health Association indicates that 80% of people are in fact affected directly or indirectly by a mental health issue during their lifetime.
In Canada only one out of five children who require mental health services will receive them according to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Suicide accounts for 24% of all deaths among 15 to 24 year olds and 16% among 25 to 44 year olds. Almost one-half, 49% of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never gone to see a doctor about this problem. There is still a long way to go before the stigma surrounding mental health is eradicated. Until that happens, people will continue to be reluctant to talk about their mental health issues and/or to seek treatment.
The Feast for the Foundation is a fundraising event organized by Lerners LLP and other dedicated community members to raise money to be directly applied to mental health. Lerners Law Firm and Bruce Power join local food producers Cedar Crest Farms, Artisan Farms, Good Family Farms and Dejong Acres as sponsors for this event.
For more than 85 years, Lerners LLP has dedicated itself to supporting the local community and important initiatives in the communities they work and have offices in. It is with that same dedication in mind that Lerners LLP has established the Feast for the Foundation on Friday, November 23rd, 2018.
Apart from the feast itself, there will be a silent auction offering exciting things such as a vacation homes in Florida and France, signed Owen Sound Attack jersey and tickets, artwork and great seats to a Toronto Maple Leafs home game.
The number of tickets are limited so everyone is encouraged to buy them early before it is too late. The Feast for the Foundation is an opportunity to shed some light on mental health, raise awareness and funds for mental health and the Owen Sound Health Foundation. Join us for this exciting evening and unique experience.
Tickets can be purchased for $100 online or at the Lerners LLP office located at 1415 1st Ave W #3008 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
