35th Annual Golf Classic in Support of Ronald McDonald House Charities
On August 2nd at Highland Country Club, the weather was sunny, the course was beautiful and thanks to the generous support of players, volunteers and sponsors, including Lerners, over $106,000 was raised for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Southwestern Ontario (RMH).
This money will go directly to supporting families with seriously injured or ill children.
Through my involvement with RMH including as a member of the Golf Committee I have seen first hand the impact of this fundraising event.
Locally, RMH is well known for the Ronald McDonald House London, steps away from Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, which provides a home-away-from-home for families living outside of London whose children are in need of medical care at a London hospital. A family can stay for as long as their child requires for only $10.00 a night and no family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.
Similarly, in Windsor, RMH has now opened the first Canadian House-Within-A-Hospital, located inside Windsor Regional Hospital, which provides the comforts of home to families from outside the Windsor area.
RMH also supports London families with the Ronald McDonald Family Room. Open in the Children’s Hospital, the family room provides all parents of sick and injured children with a quiet area for a nap, a shower and a snack just steps from their child’s bedside.
Last year 4,450 families in Southwestern, Ontario, were able to stay an active part of their child’s medical care and this successful event will ensure even more families will be supported by RMH in the coming year.
