Tastings: A Black Tie Night to Benefit the LHS Foundation

On Thursday, May 2, guests donned their finest and headed to the London Hunt and Country Club to raise money for the London Health Sciences Foundation. Tastings features dishes prepared by local chefs, wines from around the world, and an auction built around tastes, travel, style and wine. Lerners has been a lead sponsor of the Tastings fundraiser for over a decade.

Guests enjoyed dishes like Malaysian curry with kangaroo (Villa Cornelia), Gomasio charcoal crusted scallop with licorice spiked pork belly (Craft Farmacy), BBQ’d maitake mushrooms and grilled black garlic in a crepe with roasted boar belly (The Church Key Bistro-Pub), and pulled jackfruit in pinoy BBQ sauce (The Clock Tower Inn & Bistro). The wines featured at this year’s event were all from wineries who practice sustainable farming and are family-owned. A truly international experience, the visiting wineries came from Argentina, British Columbia, California, Chile, France, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain.

The true mission for the night was to raise funds to help ease the burden of cancer. Although the majority of our health care costs are paid for through the publicly-funded system, many expenses are not covered, such as new medications, medical supplies, wigs, dental work, transportation, accommodations and child care. The beneficiary of the silent auction, the London Regional Cancer Program’s Patient Assistance Program, helps patients with these hidden but significant costs that come with a cancer diagnosis.

In the past, Tastings has supported activities within the Head and Neck Cancer Research Program, as well as the purchase of equipment and patient- focused facility improvements for the LHSC London Regional Cancer Program.

Giving back to the community is one of the foundational priorities of Lerners. We are proud to sponsor the London Health Sciences Foundation Tastings fundraiser, and give our sincere thanks to all of those who attended and donated to this worthy cause.
