The 9th Annual Trauma Golf Classic
The weather Gods must really like me or at least this tournament. On Thursday, August 10th we had yet another fantastic day of weather, golf and fundraising. The golf course at Riverbend was in fantastic condition and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Thanks to our generous sponsors whom I would like to personally thank, as well as those people that attended the day for golf and dinner or for just dinner and the generosity of all our silent and live auction bidders. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we were able to raise over $104,000.00.
This has pushed the total raised to date to over $861,706.22, getting closer and closer to the goal that I set when I started this tournament of raising $1 million. All proceeds raised go to support London Health Sciences Centre – Trauma Program, and the Trauma Patient Assistance Fund.
I want to also give a special thanks to my fellow Committee members, the LHSC Foundation and all of the day-of tournament volunteers. Also, all of this could not be done without the help of my clerk, Shawn Smith who I know spends many hours keeping people organized and getting them to do the things they are supposed to do in order to make the tournament a success.
When I started this tournament, I did not really believe we would raise the kind of money we raise every year and according to the Foundation, we are one of the most successful fundraising events they have during the course of the year. In fact, this tournament has grown to become one of the premier golf tournaments in the London area. There is an awful lot of hard work that is put into this tournament by myself and many others but despite the grumbling from time to time during the course of the year, it always ends up being worthwhile when you see how much people enjoy themselves the day of the event and the money we are able to raise.
Personally I have a lot of fun on the day of the event playing golf with hackers and whackers and meeting old friends and making new ones. A good bottle of wine also goes a long way to making the golfing a fun time.
I am looking forward with great anticipation to our 10th anniversary coming up next year and maybe, just maybe we can raise enough money to hit the $1 million dollar mark! Thanks again to all of our sponsors, our volunteers, our Committee members and our golfers and our dinner guests for making this truly a special event and day.
