Volunteering with BIALR
Giving back to the community is an important value at Lerners LLP. I have volunteered with the Brain Injury Association of London and Region (BIALR) since 2012 when I became a member of the board of directors. I have been the president of the board of directors for the BIALR since 2015.
The BIALR provides important supports and resources to many of Lerners LLP clients who have suffered brain injuries and concussions in accidents. It runs support groups in Huron, Perth, Oxford, Elgin and London-Middlesex counties for brain injury survivors. One of the most important support services provided by the BIALR is the peer support mentoring program, which partners a survivor or their family member with a person who has experienced a similar situation firsthand.
The BIALR also provides education relating to, and raises public awareness about, brain injuries. It also plays an active role in trying to prevent brain injuries, such as through its helmet fitting clinics and the Helmets on Kids program.
The BIALR is an integral resource for people who have suffered from a brain injury, as well as their family and friends. The need for the services of the BIALR is increasing significantly given the constraints on the province’s health care system and the accident benefits regime. It means a great deal to me to be able to work with an organization which provides such essential services for brain injury survivors and their loved ones.
