Cracking the Glass Ceiling – One Discussion at a Time

Why Women’s Symposium?

Many will question whether a women focussed-event is still necessary – hasn’t equity between the sexes been achieved? When one looks at Lerners LLP, the answer is as close to yes as any organization can hope to come. Lerners is one of the first law firms in Canada to achieve gender parity – in fact, we’ve surpassed it. 55% of Lerners’ lawyers are women. Of the partners at this firm, 45% of them are women. For more interesting facts about Lerners’ journey to gender parity check out this National Post article, “How a mid-sized law firm became one of the first in Canada to achieve gender parity in its ranks.

While not wanting to start yet another debate as to whether the glass ceiling still exists (my opinion yes – check out the recent US election results… But that is another debate unto itself), advancing and succeeding in a career presents different challenges for women than for men. That is what we hope to address with the Lerners Women’s Symposium – creating a forum where women can discuss and help each other overcome the unique challenges that they face.

Our inaugural Lerners Women’s Symposium will focus on networking. Love it or hate it, the better you are at it, the more doors that you will make open for yourself. Whether you are trying to meet a new client, a new mentor or a potential referral source, it all comes down to building relationships. Tiziana Casciaro, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior and HR Management (University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management), will be discussing how to “Learn to Love Networking”.

Please join us on February 7, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Museum London, located at 421 Ridout Street North in London, Ontario.

RSVP to Andrea Catlin – acatlin@lerners.ca or 519.672.4131 x 5340.
