Client Testimonials

“In September of 2018 I had a bad fall in a local restaurant. I was very angry that I had lost the use of my right hand for several weeks and ended up with a permanent injury. I had known of Lerners here in Toronto, so I decided to call them. I met with a young lawyer Yasar Saffie, and together we decided to proceed to file a claim. Yasar was very understanding and empathetic. He was very through in his explanation of paperwork to be signed. He assured me I had nothing to payout until it was settled. He was also very reassuring which was highly appreciated, as I am now a senior and tend to be confused more easily. To my surprise, 9 months later it was complete, and I was awarded a settlement for my injury. I was so surprised when he called me and told me they had settled for an amount much more than I had expected. I would highly recommend Yasar Saffie to anyone who is in need of a personal injury lawyer. His interpersonal skills along with his understanding and empathy should erase any anxiety within a few minutes. I want to personally thank Lerners and Yasar Saffie for settling this case in the most efficient and professional way, and for relieving the stress and anxiety which accompanied my injury. You are the best!” – Heather A, Toronto

Selected Case Summaries

Past results are not necessarily indicative of future results. The amounts recovered and other litigation outcomes will vary according to the facts in individual cases.

  • Severe Brain Injury – Young Girl
Our young client was 13 years old when she was hit by a garbage truck as she had just exited her school bus. We acted for the little girl and her family. As a result of the accident, she suffered a traumatic brain injury, as well as multiple fractures, and had to undergo years of intense treatment and care. We pursued claims for the little girl’s pain and suffering, out-of-pocket expenses, future accident benefits, future treatment costs, future attendant care costs, and future loss of income. Through carefully obtaining the right experts, we successfully argued that not only was the garbage truck driver at fault, but the school bus driver was also partially at fault. Our goal in the case was to ensure that the little girl and her family received fair compensation for all of her future needs and to be taken care of for the rest of her life. In this case, the court approved a judgment of $12,750,000.

  • Access to Insurance Policy Coverage
Our client was a young lady crossing the road when she was hit by a stolen car. We acted for her and her husband. Neither she nor her husband had access to personal automobile insurance. We had to find an insurance company who could provide coverage for our clients’ injuries. We successfully brought a summary judgment motion to determine whether the automobile insurance policy issued to the husband’s employer provided excess coverage for our clients. The summary judgment motion focused on section 1.6(b) of the OPCF 44R form, especially whether the delivery truck of the husband’s employer was “being made available” to the husband at the time of the young lady’s accident. In this case, we succeeded in having the court order Aviva to cover our clients under Aviva’s insurance policy with the husband’s employer, which provides excess coverage to our clients in the amount of $800,000.
